Entries postmarked after July 31st will be charged an extra fee of $5. per horse for the day. A Merrickville Agricultural Society Membership Fee for each exhibitor of $5.00 or $10. per family is required. There is no charge for Ring Numbers at this Show but numbers must be returned at end of show. Entry fees: $1.50 a class.
PRIZE MONEY: 1st - $7.00, 2nd - $6.00, 3rd - $5.00, 4th - $4.00, 5th - $3.00, 6th - $2.00
Group "A" for children 12 - 18 years. Group "B" - 11 years & under. WALK & TROT classes [10 & under] & Novice [11 & over] are for young riders who do not canter or lope. Lead Line children [8 & under] walk only. All exhibitors must stay in their own group and may not enter other classes except Showmanship, Tack & Turnout & Costume.
Warm-up over fences: $2.00 per round - one round only - not to be judged – from 7:00 am till 8:00 am only. Show starts at 8:00 .
Mounted Tack & Turnout: cleanliness & neatness to be judged. Horses/Ponies should be under control at all times & never left unattended. They should be clean, well cared for & equipment should fit well. Riders must wear shoes or boots with a good heel. A hardhat with chinstrap is mandatory in classes over fences.

HORSE SHOW RULES
1. A Merrickville Agricultural Society Membership fee for each exhibitor of $5.00 single or $10.00 family will be charged. Entry form, fees, proof of liability insurance & Reg Papers to be mailed by July 31. Late entries will be charged $5. extra per horse. Entry forms must be signed by all exhibitors & a parent or guardian must sign Jr Exhibitor Release. Because of lack of parking space, no extra vehicles are allowed.
2. No horse or pony will be allowed to exhibit in wrong class & must show in a qualifying class before entering Stake or Special classes. There should be at least 3 exhibitors per class for full prize money. Prize money for Sat & Sun Horse Shows will be mailed in Sept. If insufficient funds, prizes paid pro rata.
3. All events start on schedule. All riders must wear proper footwear with a heel. Hard hat & chinstrap must be worn in jumping classes. Exhibitors & horses must be in proper attire/equipment & should be ready 5 minutes prior to class. Animals must be kept under control & never left unattended. At this Show a Horse is over 14.2 hands & a Pony 14.2 & under. Horses are not to be ridden on Soccer Field or through the Fair Grounds. Only Lower portion of the Track is permitted.
4. Any person interfering with the Judge or Officials or use contemptious or abusive language or damage property could forfeit rights to premiums they are entitled. Protests must be written, signed & mailed with a $50. deposit to Horse Show Secretary within 48 hours. In case of dispute, final decision will be up to the Horse Show Committee who will not be held responsible for any accident, damage or loss to exhibitors, animals, spectators, vehicles or other property at Fair.
5. Leadline Classes [8 yrs & under] will walk only. Walk & Trot [10 yrs & under] & Novice riders [11 & over] do not canter or lope. No other exhibitor may enter these classes. However Leadline, Walk/Trot & Novice exhibitors may enter costume, halter, showmanship & driving classes but no other riding class.

HORSE PULLING RULES - 27’6" DISTANCE PULL - BUCKEYE SLED1. Two pulls must be completed to qualify for prize money. Current Coggins and inance papers must be presented. To help offset drug testing costs there will be a $10.00 fee per team. to pull.2. There shall be no alcoholic beverages used by teamsters, helpers or officials.3. All teams must be weighed the day of the pull with a halter and loose shank.4.
Middle Class - 3500 lbs and under. Scales will open 1 1/2 hours before
pull begins and close 30 minutes before pull.
BOTH CLASSES PULL
TOGETHER.5. LENGTH OF DRAW IS 27 FEET 6 INCHES. LONGEST DRAW
COUNTS, 2 ATTEMPTS. A total of 2 1/2 minutes will be allowed to
complete each draw. BUCKEYE PULLING SLED to be used when possible.
Pulling sled to be drawn in both directions for two rounds and then
only one direction for remainder of pull. On the second hitch,
teamsters have the option of taking immediately following the first
hitch, where the boat is sitting. If he/she passes and takes the second
hitch at the end of the round then the boat can be spotted anywhere on
the track as long as there is sufficient side lines left. The pulling
sled to be centered between the two side lines. To be eligible for a
second hitch a reasonable attempt must be made on first hitch. Side
lines must be 18 feet apart.6.
A teamster is allowed two helpers. Teamsters and helpers must remain
behind the double tree while the horses are pulling. After completing
the first pull, no change in teamster will be allowed, except in the
case of injury.7. A break in harness - the teamster will decide if he keeps the distance or will start over.8. A run-away team or team out of control will automatically be eliminated and drug tested at teamsters expense.9. A pull will be disqualified: a) if horses step on or over lines or markers b) if horses are beaten, lines are swung, foul language used c) if helpers interfere in any way after horses are hitched d) if teamsters or helpers head the horses while pulling or hitching e) if teamsters or helpers slap, push or touch the horses with hand lines or wiffletrees while in the ring. NO CHECK SLAPS WILL BE ALLOWED.10. Three circles passing in front of the boat or anything over a twelve inch chuck will be classified as one pull.11.
Any teamster or helper will automatically be ejected from the contest
with all winnings forfeited if he argues with the judge, fairboard,
pulling committee or other contestants.12. NO CHANGING OF BRIDLES DURING THE PULL.13. DRUG TESTING TO BE ENFORCED: a) No drugs allowed b) No team or teamster allowed to pull while under suspension with any other organization c) Forfeit prize money and placing d) Additional penalty as fair board concerned feel appropriate
