Having officially earned the honour of "Canada’s most beautiful village" in 1998, we are situated at the western end of the Merrickville Locks on the historic Rideau Canal. Our Fair was established in 1838, 5 years after Col. John Bye inspected his canal. "The Fairgrounds" being donated by Sam Jakes, whose 3 storey general store still corners St. Lawrence and Main St, as a beacon to guide you west along Main St. to the Fair Grounds. We are less than an hour’s drive from both Ottawa, the nation’s capital, and the U.S.- Canada border. We invite you after attending the Fair - the second weekend of August every year, to check our delightful restaurants and shops, and savour its small town hospitality.
